LeeAnne Gray of The Connect Group School in LA said to me one day before I left, "You should connect with Grant Lichtman! He is a leader in educational change and wrote a book based on his travels to different schools." So I emailed Grant, who lives near San Diego. Grant, an incredibly busy and well-recognized leader and thinker in innovative education, was gracious enough to allow me to come with him on a personal tour with the principal of a design-thinking school near San Diego. I sat down before the tour with Grant and Eric Chagala, principal of VIDA, and had a chance to briefly tell the story of my own journey. We then toured through the school together, stopping in various classes to see design-challenges in action. I listened in on Grant and Eric's discussions about design-thinking, and had a chance to talk to Grant for a few minutes at the end of the tour before he moved on to his next engagement.
Grant Lichtman is a nationally recognized leader in the transformation of education in response to a rapidly changing world. He has recently published a book, #EdJourney: a Roadmap to the Future of Education, which is a reflection on Grant's 3 month road trip during which he visited over 60 schools and interviewed more than 600 teachers, leaders, students, and parents in order to find out how innovation is already part of our educational system, and how we can implement it even more effectively. Grant is currently working with public and private schools across the country, helping them focus their vision and develop strategic plans to embrace change and prepare their students for the future.
Grant's advice to me as a teacher was, essentially: There are many different types of schools approaching education in different ways - find out which ones suit you the best, and then go tell them what you bring to the table.

One of the methods advocated by Grant, and which he uses in workshops with schools and teachers, is Design Thinking.
